Shopper’s Alley Style Retrospective: Nicole Kidman
Few celebrities are known for their sense of style on and off the red carpet – but we certainly consider Nicole Kidman as a notable exception. Since her rise to fame in the 1990s, she has captivated audiences worldwide for her versatile acting skills, as well as her classic yet eccentric looks that have stood out from her fellow A-listers. See our most favorite Nicole Kidman outfits in our latest retrospective below.
Nicole’s Off The Red Carpet Style
Always ready to take risks, Nicole has pulled off looks normally meant for the runway. Above, she is seen in an elegant tweed and silk polka-dot number at the 2004 Venice Film Festival. Whisked away from the paparazzi via water taxi, she exudes a regal charm similar to film icons Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.
Nicole is also known to experiment with shimmering textures, whimsical patterns, and bold colors. On the left, she is pictured out and about in New York wearing a black jumper and ruffled skirt – an outfit elevated by its sparkling crystal details. Recently, she was also spotted at a photo call for the Cannes Film Festival, this time in a raffia and pearl Dior dress that reportedly took over 1,000 hours to make.
Iconic Awards Season Looks
1. In Armani Privé, Oscars 2018
Nicole has also proven her style credentials on the red carpet, often seen in dresses with vintage silhouettes and quirkier fabrics. Here she is at the 2018 Academy Awards, pictured in an electric blue Armani Privé gown. Structured with a daring front slit and an oversized bow at the waist, it’s a standout dress fit for such a high-profile event.
2. In Gucci, Screen Actors Guild Awards 2017
Kidman has also shown a more adventurous side to Old Hollywood glamour. At the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards, she stepped out in a 1920s-style Gucci gown –with twin parakeets sewn onto the plunging neckline, and an exquisite emerald train that falls effortlessly on the floor.
3. In Alexander McQueen, Met Gala 2016
The 2016 Met Gala saw many take the theme of “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” too literally, showing up in metallic dresses – and overlooking the exhibit’s artisan element. Contrasting this was Nicole Kidman, who wore an encrusted Alexander McQueen gown that highlighted couture’s hand-sewn heritage. Cut out with a revealing bodice, it’s dusted with a moon and star motif that extends from the column to the cape.
